project: Kitchen renovation, Hornby, Ontario.

design objectives: The programme for this kitchen required a highly functional kitchen with clean lines and a minimum of clutter. To achieve this, the kitchen was opened to the adjoining dining room, a continuous ceiling was created to maximizing the illusion of space, and a large pantry was built around the stainless steel fridge, thus creating a "garde manger". All the veneer was taken from a single flitch of quarter sawn white oak to give continuity to the grain of the panels throughout the kitchen. Careful selection of other materials gives a cool, crisp feel while still lending a air of richness.

materials: Rift cut white oak, stainless steel, coby ebony slate, Corian, sandblasted glass.
